Phoenix Chapter holds two book drives in the first quarter
March and April meetings – used book drive
Plan now!
Get a jump on your spring cleaning! Gather those (no longer) used books from your garage, closet, or home office, and bring them to the March or April dinner meeting. Books will be donated to VNSA (Volunteer Nonprofit Service Association) for their annual book sale. What could be easier? VNSA hosts the largest used book sale in the country, with proceeds benefiting Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation, Literacy Volunteers of Maricopa County, and Toby House, Inc. For questions about our book drive, contact gmcconnell@cableone.net.
January – February students’ reference book drive is a success
Second-grade students at Wilson Primary school in central Phoenix will receive several copies of the Scholastic Children’s Encyclopedia, thanks to STC member Dana Osborne and generous chapter members. Members donated several books directly and nearly $200 in cash, and Dana will present the books to the school. Students will be able to use these books in the classroom to learn how to research information. This skill is one requirement of AIMS testing.
