Description
This position is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies and programs for the IT Risk and Chief Information Security Office within American Express Technologies. The incumbent will partner with the organization’s senior vice president and leadership team to create communication strategies and tactics in support of security, control and compliance initiatives that will affect American Express employees, contractors, vendors and other partners worldwide, across all business units and staff groups. Some travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement communication plans in support of IT Risk and CISO initiatives
  • Develop easy-to-understand communications to drive acceptance and adoption of AXP security, and control and compliance processes
  • These will include web content, user guides, technical instructions, training materials, presentations, memos and other communications
  • Must be understood by audiences with varying levels of technical and subject-matter expertise
  • Consult with and coach IT Risk and CISO leaders and project team members on developing communications in support of their initiatives
  • Serve as a member of the Senior Vice President & Chief Information Security Officer’s leadership team

Required Qualifications

  • The ability to think strategically and conceptually to ensure that communications target the unique needs of various internal American Express audiences
  • Exceptional leadership, and interpersonal and oral communication skills; must have the ability to influence at all levels
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including interpretation of technical information into language that is understandable by and compelling to target audiences
  • Experience creating and implementing communication strategies and tactics in support of major behavioral and cultural change efforts
  • Superior judgment
  • Experience designing communication programs that incorporate sound principles of human factors and usability
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver against deadlines while maintaining very high quality
  • 10 + years of communication experience working in an information technology/information security organization or other technical environment is preferred
  • Team player with experience leading large change management initiatives
  • People leadership experience is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field
