[about the phoenix chapter] [about the society]

[Overview Title Graphic]
Since 1992, the STC Phoenix Chapter has the top won the top Chapter Achievement Award seven times in our category. In 2000, additional awards were given to chapters (besides the top award), and the Phoenix Chapter has won three Excellence Awards and one Merit Award (see the Awards and Honors page for the complete list).

Additionally, we have won numerous awards for our newsletter and PR accomplishments. STC Phoenix serves technical communicators throughout central and northern Arizona.
(See Awards and Honors page.)

Note: The Southern Arizona Chapter received its charter in May 1998.

STC Phoenix Chapter members can be found working in a wide variety of companies from small, little-known start-up firms to industry leaders such as Motorola, Intel, and Honeywell.

Each year, the STC Phoenix Chapter obtains a proclamation from Arizona's governor establishing the second or third week in October as Technical Communication Week. Our chapter sponsors special activities and promotes awareness of technical communication during the entire month.

This effort recognizes the notable value that communication plays in the advancement of technology. Through publicity in the local news media, trade shows, and by encouraging local companies to participate with luncheons and special displays, we increase an awareness of the significant role technical communicators play.

MEETINGS

STC Phoenix Chapter meetings allow you to exchange ideas with your peers and participate in practical, job-related programs. Also, meetings are an excellent forum for friendly conversation and networking with fellow communicators.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at the various locations in the Valley. Postcards announcing the program, meal choices, and cost are sent to the members each month.

Note: Informal networking meetings are held in July and August.

   Networking:  5:00 PM
   Dinner:         6:00 PM
   Program       6:45 PM

$25 for dinner, nonmembers with an RSVP by the deadline
$15 for dinner, student members with an RSVP
   $10 for the program only

All fees are payable at the door. If a reservation isn't made, there is no guarantee that a meal will be available. The dinner and program price includes the dinner, taxes, tip, and program.

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP/MEMBERSHIPS

The Phoenix Chapter college scholarship is awarded when the student population is sizable enough to warrant the $300-$500 award. The award is a continuation of our efforts to promote the study of technical communication. In years when no scholarship is given, we often provide funds for student memberships in STC.

Contact Marian Barchilon for more information.

CENTRAL ARIZONA REGIONAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR (CARSEF)

This yearly affair promotes technical communication among junior and senior high school students in Arizona. Science and engineering project reports submitted by students are judged for appearance, clarity, relevance, and organization.

Winners and their teachers are guests at the June dinner meeting. Cash prizes are awarded at Arizona State University (ASU).

ROUGH DRAFT NEWSLETTER

The Phoenix Chapter publishes the Rough Draft every month. This newsletter includes timely and informative articles written by local and national members. The Rough Draft is also a source for the latest chapter events. Members are always encouraged to submit articles and to help produce this award-winning newsletter.

SHOWCASING YOUR WORK
