In my technical writing career I’ve held staff and contract technical writing and curriculum development positions. I’ve written content and courseware for ERP software, planning & logistics, environmental health & safety, computer peripherals, CRM, finance, aerospace, and government industries and projects.
I’m so happy to be part of the Arizona Chapter of the STC! I want to help anyway I can to grow the chapter and to enhance the benefits we provide members. In addition to my role as Secretary, I’m also interested in helping to plan and organize our chapter’s continuing education workshops.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with degrees in Economics and Journalism. I also hold a professional certificate in Curriculum Design & Development from San Francisco State University.
Treasurer–Dr. Erika Konrad
I have participated in the STC/Phoenix for the past couple of years and just actually paid dues to become a member in October of 2017. Why? I want to keep up with the tech side of professional and technical writing by meeting people who work in the diverse jobs in our field–learning about what we do and how we do it.
I teach professional and technical writing at Northern Arizona University:
Before returning to teaching in 2010, I was co-director of a non-profit for about a decade. There I wrote reports, grant proposals, and managed projects in rural Arizona. Prior to that I taught English as a second language in California, Northern Arizona, and overseas.
BA English – University of California, Davis
TESOL Certificate – California State Sacramento
MA Linguistics – University of California, Davis
Ph.D. Applied Linguistics – NAU
I was a construction document control manager for 18 years. I specialized in standard operating procedures (SOPs) and instruction manuals.
My recent experience includes:
I attended Kennesaw State University and Arizona State University.
I have been an STC member for approximately two years.
I was one of the first graduates of the ASU East (it was East then, not Polytechnic) Multimedia Writing and Technical Communication (MWTC) program in May 2003.
Since then I have worked in the following industries:
I joined STC in 2002 and was a cofounder of the STC ASU Student Chapter (we disbanded after a year or two). I still remember what a thrill it was for me to attend the STC meetings and listen to the professionals discuss the very subjects that we were learning about in the classroom. (We didn’t have online classes then.)
I am very proud to be an STC member, and I know that I would not be where I am today without the networking and educational opportunities that I received through my STC membership.
I look forward to working with everyone in our STC Arizona Chapter family, and I hope to see you soon at one of our events!
